When I first learned that I would have the opportunity to review Max “Make-A-Wish” Bear from Things Remembered I knew that he had to be a part of this year’s Holiday Showcase.

Max represents the spirit of Christmas and the Holiday Season….the True Spirit. Not just the hustle and bustle of it all…but the idea of giving of yourself to someone else. The idea of presenting a gift to someone you love which will be treasured for a lifetime. Max holds a delicate water globe in his paws with a message that reads “Wishes from the Heart.” A story card explains how Max brings and shares wishes with others. His name is short for “Maximilian”, which means “greatest”.

When I received the bear I was impressed with how beautiful he was. I have seen, received and given water globes as gifts before but Max is truly a beautiful bear and the globe is exquisite. My engraving may not be original or unique but it is from the heart as it reads “Because You Are Our Wish Come True – 2009″.

There is something magical about water globes…listening to the sweet sounds of “When You Wish Upon a Star” takes you to a different time and place. A much simpler moment and a more divine feeling. Maybe it is the Christmas Spirit truly alive in this little guy. How could it not be? He is a representative of The Make-A-Wish Foundation. Giving of yourself is exactly what the foundation is about.

The Make-A-Wish foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Founded in 1980 when a group of caring volunteers helped a young boy fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer, the Foundation is now the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 65 chapters in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and nearly 25,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation grants a wish every 40 minutes and has granted more than 174,000 wished in the U.S. since inception.
