Reviewed by: Krista, Mom of 2 year-old Jayden

What does every little boy love? Tools and Tractors! Bob the Builder snags the attention of the viewer by starting out with a catchy song about Bob the Builder. The song introduces the Tractor, Dump Truck, and Bob himself. The song talks about working together to get things done and when a group of friends work together, anything is possible!

The tractors and big machines have fun names such as, “Scoops, Lofty, Muck, Dizzy, and Rolly.” They play together like good friends should.

In this episode Lofty, the tow truck, is nervous and scared of everything. He starts feeling bad and feels as if he is no help to anyone. He cries and goes off on his own. Lofty explains that he is afraid of everything and this doesn’t help anyone. Wendy, the human character, explains that it is okay to be scared. This is a great lesson for all kids! I want my son to understand that it is okay to be scared and that he can accomplish his fear. This episode teaches just that!

There is scarecrow that plays the trickster in this show. He teases Lofty and plays the part of a “Bully.” The scarecrow’s name is Spud. Spud is very mean to Lofty and chases Lofty away. Then…a good lesson is taught. Spud gets stuck in a tree and no one but Lofty can save him. Lofty puts his feeling aside and agrees to help the scarecrow that has been bullying him. Lofty is afraid of heights but becomes brave to help his bully.

Even though people can be cruel and mean, it is still important to put feelings aside and do the right thing. In the end, Spud apologizes to Lofty and they become friends. This is the type of lesson I want my son to understand and put into practice. Thanks Lofty!

You know I really love Thomas the Train. There is something charming about our little friend the train. I feel comfortable allowing my girls to watch the Thomas the Train cartoons without having to sit in the room with them every moment.

Splish, Splash, Splosh is no exception. While Thomas is a bit more naughty then he normally is…he is quick to accept the responsibility, realize his error and change his ways.
There are four episodes in the Splish, Splash, Splosh but the title episode is my favorite. Watching it with the twins was enlightening as they were quick to inform Thomas of
his errors. Thomas creates a lot of “big” and “messy” problems by carelessly enjoying too many puddles. Completely clueless to what his little fun has done for his fellow train friends…he is quick to rectify
the situations and helps John and Emily to carry out their duties.

Splish, Splash, Splosh just released in January but you can find it on sale for $12.97 at the Thomas and Friends website,
http://thomasandfriends.hitshopusa.com/ttp/Thomas-Friends-DVD-Splish-Splash-Splosh-/cPath/10530/products_id/136261.html?keywords=scrambler

I found this video to be a great “quiet down” DVD before bedtime. The entire DVD is only 46 minutes long and also includes games!
This particular DVD is an animated cartoon rather then the live models type of cartoon. Personally I enjoy the animated versions considerably more then the
model type of cartoon. My twins seems to be much more interested in this version of animation as well.

Whether you are a train lover, cartoon lover or a Thomas lover…you are going to enjoy Splish, Splash, Splosh

whatdidIthink

This is a fun video for little ones. In Lend A Hand each story concentrates on what it takes to be a friend. What it takes to be helpful and caring. Using great characters like Bob the Builder, Angelina Ballerina and Barny allows the child to interact and understand the story line.

Our personal favorites were Fireman Sam “Mother’s Helper” and Angelina Ballerina “The Ballerina Ragdoll”. Learning about fire safety in Mother’s Helper was an added bonus to the story line…one that my girls immediately understood and scolded the father for not realizing. The sweet story of The Ballerina Ragdoll displayed a wonderful moment between Angelina and a little friend. While every child must grow up… it is wonderful to share your love, toys and friendship with those that are still younger then you.

Lend A Hand offers many teaching moments for parents and children. Great opportunities to discuss why this or that decision was made and whether it was helpful and wise.

new year 2010

Can you believe that when you wake up tomorrow it will be 2010!!!
Remember the hoopla of Y2K?

Yikes! I do! Every one was sure that the world was going to end…yet here we are starting the end of the 1st decade…amazing!

I thought it would be fun to look back on 2009 and revisit some of favorite reviews, photographs, features and articles.

During this year…I have created and posted over 2000 articles and today I gave myself the task of narrowing down my favorites. I am sure your favorites may be different but for various reasons…these are my favorites from 2009! I did not have the energy or the heart to put them in any particular order. They are randomly listed.

I have had the honor and privilege to work with some of the greatest companies, PR firms, literary publicists, publishing houses, social media forums and sales personal that exist. I am deeply grateful for a fantastic year for the IE Mommy.

So….”CHEERS and Thanks” to everyone….you guys ROCK!

Happy 2010!!

With 10 Different DVDs…can you say we had a BLAST!

I feel like Bob, Thomas and Barney have now become very intimate friends. I probably know more about them and their friends, communities and families then I do my own, lol…but seeing my girls react, interact and enjoy each of these DVDs was well worth every moment.

The great thing as a parent…I know that the characters of Bob, Thomas and Barney have good morals and values that are passed on to my girls as they watch the show.

If you are particular on what your child(ren) watch…I would encourage you to pick up these videos as they are kid and parent pleasing.

51aBAaBOagL._SS500_WHAT DOES THE IE MOMMY THINK?:

You can never go wrong with this wonderful group of friends. Frosty Friends has fun cartoon episodes with Thomas the Train, Barney, Bob the Builder, Pingu and Kipper.

The entire video is approximately 50 minutes but because you have multiple cartoons this is a perfect “Mommy Needs a Time Out” DVD.

We took our time watching one little cartoon each night before we went to bed and it was enjoyable pace. Entertaining for the little ones…and perfect because of the well-known, lovable characters.

The weather is changing and the wind, snow and rain will soon be here. I know it is other parts of the US but hey, I’m in California…we change very little and it takes a while. The Frosty Friends will be a fun, snuggle down with hot-chocolate for myself and my girls this Winter. Wanna join us?

Bob the Builder – Call in the Crew DVD (Review)

btbCallInCrewWHAT DOES THE IE MOMMY THINK?:

Here’s is what I love about Bob the Builder. It is a great DVD and cartoon for both boys and girls.

I grew up with only sisters…no brothers…so my dad taught us how to do a lot of the “boy” things around the house. Little repairs on cars or our home were easy for us to do.

I love Bob the Builder because he is a character that empowers children (male or female) to give it a try.

Call in the Crew has 5 delightful cartoons and a cute mini vehicle to add some excitement to the DVD.

Part of Bob’s theme song… “…Can we fix it? Yes we can..” is the perfect example of the character’s optimism and delight in discovery.  My twins and I enjoy watching the Bob the Builder DVDs and cartoons.  In fact, thanks to Bob and a few other handy role models…they now each have their own tool shed. Yes, Bob the Builder is a boy…but go girl power!
