Lots of Toys for Christmas? The Guidecraft Toy Chest is the Perfect Place to Keep Them

Posted in 2010 Holiday Showcase, CD & DVD Reviews, IE Review Crew, Reviews, Twin Kitchen by The IE Mommy

This Colonial styled toy chest features a seating area, generous storage area with removable dividers and casters for enhanced mobility. The three photo cut-outs will allow for personalization. Features a safety hinge catch and cut-outs to prevent finger pinching*

If your house looks like mine, toys are everywhere! I’ve tried to stay organized, I really have. But, with a baby and a toddler, that can be a difficult challenge. We have a toybox downstairs for a few toys, but it is rather small. I have an issue with it because it’s like a “catch-all!” Toys are thrown in there and when I go to clean it out, there is trash, papers, and the toys have been smashed so the lid will shut! The Guidecraft Toybox offers solutions to those problems. The Guidecraft Toybox is very “kid-friendly!” My son can open and close it with ease, without having to worry about closing his fingers in the lid. There are three large (and deep) compartments for toys. I love this idea! I like everything to be in it’s place. These compartment dividers are removable also, so if you
have large toys to store, you can do that as well.

Trying to teach a toddler organization is sometimes a daunting task. I’m going to really work with him on picking up his toys and keeping his room clean, and this toybox helps me out in teaching that skill. I can also teach him positions because of the toy dividers. I can instruct him to go put this toy in the “middle square” or the “left” or “right” square. What fun!

When a child feels ownership in something, it helps for him/her to develop a love for that object. I love, love, love the option this toybox gives with the picture frame holders in the back! I can snap some cute photos of my boys and place them in the picture slots. What a fun way to personalize the toybox and help decorate the room!

Okay, now you know that I love this toybox, but I have to give you the scoop about putting it together. Now, I’m not one to take the initiative to put things together. I see a big box and I just leave it for my hubby. He’s really handy and enjoys building things, etc. He has a “type-A” personality, so when he opens the box, he likes to line everything up, according to size, label, and in order of assembly. Well, he opened the box, lined everything up, and couldn’t find the instructions! Um…there were a lot of pieces, but no instructions! He found a picture diagram and used that to assemble. However, if he weren’t so handy, this could have been a disaster! We later found the instructions on the website, which are to be printed out. This was kind of funny to us since usually, the instructions are included in the box. So, from my husband’s perspective, that was just bad news.

It didn’t stop there. In the process of building this beautiful toybox, he had to drill larger holes for the hinges. When he tried to use the screws provided, the steal screw heads broke off. Either my hubby is so strong he breaks screws, or the screws included are sort of, well, cheap? (my hubby is awesome, but he’s no Hercules!) He worked it out though and the toybox looks great! The only thing we would recommend is…print the instructions before opening the box, and be very gentle with the screws, they are fragile! All in all, this toybox is amazing! I love the depth of the toybox! The dividers make for a structured toy area, and the picture frame idea is awesome. If you’re looking for a toybox…you’ll have to check this one out! It comes in three different colors, to match your personal décor style!

Fashion “is” in the Eye of the Beholder

Yes, I know it’s Fashion week…but I just had to share because I am so proud.  We recently entered our car into a Trunk or Treat event where the grand prize was an iPod Touch. The twins have been begging to get one for some time. We’ve always said “no”

When we learned of this contest…we told them if they helped and worked on our car…they could keep the iPod if they won.  We WON!!!! They worked hard with Daddy..painting, gluing, cutting…and messing up their clothing, lol. I thought I’d share the car, their joy and their very fashionable costumes!

Our version of "Charlotte's Web"

We Won Mama, We Won!

Our game was pin the tail on the piggy. Here is the lil' piggy I drew.

Skylar's Quote: "When a bride finds the perfect gown, she never puts it down"...and she didn't! Rylan's Quote: "Argh!"

This shot fits their personalities to a "T"

Nick Vujicic and My Daughter

Posted in Christianity, IE Mommy Posts, IE Twins, Twin Kitchen by The IE Mommy
Sep 09 2010

Not too long ago my church had the honor and privilage of having Nick Vujicic come and talk to our congregation. It was moment that will not be forgotten. Such a young man with a power and passion for Christ…even though he has no arms or legs. You can not hear his story and not be moved and touched to God’s Glory.

Tonight my daughter, Skylar, brought a picture over to me that was taken on that day when she met Nick. She gave Nick a hug even though she was a bit intimidated by his appearance. She said to me… “Mommy, post this on the blog. Tell people about Nick and that your daughter hugged him” I remember that moment…she was a bit fearful as she had never met someone like Nick before but she was drawn to his Spirit and wanted to hug him. He hugged her back with all his might and a twinkle in his eye.

The moment left an impact on me and obviously on her as well.

So here I am….ready to go to bed…but having just one more post to publish and this one is probably the most important of the day…because a little girl that I loved asked me to post it.

Rotten Kids …What Do You Do When They Are Not Yours?

Posted in IE Mommy Posts, IE Twins, Twin Kitchen by The IE Mommy
Sep 09 2010

How do you adjust?

OK…

I am not generally one that asks for advice. Never have been that type of person…I generally pray over it, figure it out myself or talk to my husband about it. God has blessed me with a couple of amazing women since joining my current church. They have become my sounding board on some matters. I can not imagine having a more sound and wonderful set of ladies.

But I have a question to ask “Moms” and thought  “What better place then the blog”?

So here is the question:

What do you do when your child has terrible kids in their class?

Rylan and Skylar are taking outside classes and there are a couple of students that are just downright mean, unruly and hyper. They get the entire class going and are lacking manners beyond anything.

Do you share your observations with your children?
Do you offer your child warnings?
Do you give them the “look” (You know the one that means…don’t you dare act like them?)
or
Do you just let them figure it out alone?

I have the blessing and the curse right now to be there with them. Since it’s a home school alternative…the parents are allowed to either drop them off (i.e. like a regular school) or they can stay  close by. I’ve stayed with them in their morning class but have opted out of the other afternoon classes because I just can’t handle those kids.

So what’s right?

I know there comes a time that my girls must learn to defend themselves and stand up for themselves but is it now?

C’mon moms…give me some assistance…because I am just not sure what is right?
