Nikki Yanofsky Celebrates Olympic Success and #1 Hit Single on ABC World News
More than anything, Nikki Yanofsky is just excited to finally be able to talk about her performance of the Canadian national anthem at the Olympic opening ceremonies. “All week we had rehearsals, and I couldn’t say what I was doing,” the 16-year-old said of her powerful rendition of “O Canada,” kept a secret until the big day. Nikki shared this with anchor David Muir in a recent segment from ABC World News, which also includes a brief look back at the young singer’s impressive career and recent success with “I Believe,” CTV’s Official Song for Vancouver 2010.
In addition to her 16th birthday, Nikki also recently celebrated her first #1 hit single as her version of “I Believe” topped the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 and iTunes Canada Top Songs chart. “I Believe” reached #1 within two weeks of release and is currently out-selling top artists such as Taylor Swift, The Black Eyed Peas and Ke$ha. “I Believe” Reaches #1 on iTunes Canada Top Songs Chart
With a powerful, soulful voice to rival singers twice her age, 16-year-old singing sensation Nikki Yanofsky is the voice of the 2010 Winter Olympics in her home country of Canada with her latest recording, “I Believe.” Nikki sings the English-language version of the song, which is the official theme of Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium. “I Believe” is the young star’s first #1 single, recently breaking into the top 10 on Canadian radio and passing the platinum sales mark on iTunes Canada, where the song has been a best-seller since its release.
In a recent interview with CTV, Nikki said of the track: “The song has such a universal message. It doesn’t even need to be applied to the Olympics. It’s really just about believing in yourself and your talent, and that when you’re down, there’s people around you that really do support you.” Nikki also sang the Canadian national anthem during the live broadcast of the Olympic opening ceremonies in Vancouver, which had a worldwide audience of over 3 billion people – one of the largest television audiences in history.
