“War Horse,” the Academy Award®-nominated Best Picture, is a story of incredible friendship, loyalty, courage, hope and tenacity. Based on the Tony Award®-winning play, and set against the sweeping canvas of World War I, this deeply heartfelt tale begins with the remarkable friendship between a feisty colt named Joey and his young trainer Albert (Jeremy Irvine). When they’re forced apart by war, the film follows Joey’s extraordinary journey as he changes and inspires the lives of everyone he meets. No matter where they go or what they experience both boy and horse keep forging ahead, driven by devotion and the hope of returning home. Filled with spectacularly rich visuals, “War Horse” is one of the most powerful and moving stories of friendship and love ever filmed.
My Thoughts
I had anticipated seeing this movie at the theaters but before I had an opportunity to do so…it was gone. Thankfully I was able to review it on the Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack and share it with my family.
War Horse is rated PG-13 but my daughters are very soft-hearted so there were some moments were it was just a bit too much for them. Overall, it was a great movie to watch as a family and share a little bit of what life was like in that time period.
I thought the movie offered a lot of “teaching moments” for my daughters. As a home school family…that is always something you are looking for. Love, loss, pain and joy are all emotions clearly reflected in this film.
War Horse is not a light, fluff movie but one that will leave you thinking and pondering the moments and metaphors throughout the film.

their crops are flooded, the father is forced to sell Joey to Captain Nicholls in the Calvary. The horse manages to live through World War 1 miraculously and against the odds.
