Cravings Card Size Devotionals by Carey Bailey (@CareyCBailey)

Cravings is a collection of card-size devotionals based on the Psalms. They are written to help mothers develop their relationship with God in the midst of motherhood.

Each card contains a scripture for the day, a “thoughtlet,” and an action idea. As moms crave the sweet morsels from God’s Word, they can draw a card from a delectable Cravings holder—a pink cupcake!—that also displays the daily card for hands-free viewing. Versatile enough to fit with any feminine décor in a dining nook, a prayer closet, a kitchen–wherever you‘d want Scripture at your fingertips. If you find you need Cravings around the home, just one may not be enough!

Cravings can be a mom’s daily devotional, a supplement to her regular quiet time, or even doubled up during the day. The set of 40 cards offers over a month’s worth of Cravings in whatever way serves the spiritual needs of individual moms.

My Thoughts

What’s a mother to do? Life is fast. Kids are faster! It seems that the world never stops or slows down once you become a mom. Showers and bathroom stops seem to be the only breaks you can get and that’s only if you LOCK the door.

Thankfully Carey Bailey understands the craziness of being a woman and/or a mom. She also understand the need we have to be in the word and lean on God, His wisdom and His guidance.

I was immediately drawn to this adorable set because it was accompanied by a card that actually made me cry. I guess I need a bit of love in that moment and Carey’s personal card definitely hit the spot. Thank you Carey.

The devotional is the cutest little cupcake that makes a sweet addition to your decor in your home or office. It’s simple, whimsical and purposeful.  There is a card for each day…just enough of a bite to keep you thinking and contemplating God’s word but not so much that you are overwhelmed at the thought of using it daily.

If you or a loved one…is finding themselves busy, stressed, or disheartened…rest assured that God’s word and Carey’s format will be day and soul brightener.

How can 2 cards a week and 20 minutes a day deepen your family’s relationship with Christ? #biblebee

At times, it can feel overwhelming and intimidating to think about providing Biblical learning at home.  We often think we are unqualified, too busy, or that our kids won’t listen.  But, we miss the greatest gift as parents if we don’t disciple our kids.  Deuteronomy 6:7 is clear about our responsibility to teach our children God’s Truth, “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

The Bible Bee Family Discipleship Challenge provides a way to get resources and encouragement as you study with your children.  The Challenge is created by The National Bible Bee and it’s ministry partners.

Join the Challenge NOW!

My Thoughts

When this popped into my mailbox…I was extremely happy and excited about it! I couldn’t wait to jump at the chance to learn the word with my family and to share this phenomenal opportunity with YOU!

For a very long time I’ve wanted to read and learn scripture with my girls…but it always seemed that the devotions or books that I have obtained ended up fizzling away to the way side and nothing would get done.

I love the concept of the Bible Bee Family Discipleship Challenge and look forward to doing this with my children this summer…I truly hope you’ll join me so we can all be blessed. If you do…I’d love to hear about it!

One Devil to Another by Richard Platt (Review & Giveaway)

As One Devil to Another is an astonishing debut work that C. S. Lewis’s biographer and foremost Lewis authority Walter Hooper calls “a stunning achievement, the finest example of the genre of diabolical correspondence to appear since this genre was popularized by C. S. Lewis.”

Enter into this chilling and diabolical tale, one that reveals the very tricks and strategies of Hell. Through a series of letters between devils created by Platt, senior devil Slashreap trains his young protégé, Scardagger, to win an individual soul away from Heaven and into their clutches. As the devils plot their way to triumph, they reveal the spiritual dangers and risks we face in today’s society.

Their frighteningly accurate perspective on issues such as contemporary technology and sexual mores is interwoven with timeless matters such as the power of prayer, the purpose of suffering, and the promises held out by Heaven . . . and Hell. Destined to become a modern classic, As One Devil to Another is a brilliantly written, deeply unsettling perspective on twenty-first-century society . . . a glimpse of ourselves through the eyes of those who have embraced their underworldly existence.

My Thoughts

I love C.S. Lewis. His writings, his story and his life are all very fascinating and intriguing. Many of his books have “special” places on my bookshelf.  I was excited to read One Devil to Another by Richard Platt since it was a book that “voiced” the “spirit” of C.S. Lewis styles and distinctly his book, The Screwtape Letters.

I went to a women’s retreat this past weekend and thought it was the perfect quiet time to read this book and really digest what it was all about.  What I learned was this…while One Devil to Another is a fascinating example of how quickly, easily and willingly our adversary, Satan, likes to distract, diminish and destroy our quiet time and relationship with Christ…this book was not a light read and maybe not the best choice for my retreat time.

One Devil to Another is based on fictional letters written from Slashreap to his nephew, Scardagger. As a Christian I can clearly see the truth in the letters regarding the schemes and strategies of Satan. But as a reviewer I found myself having a difficult time following the letters and had to start and restart chapters and passages over and over again.

One Devil to Another is one of those books that is worth reading and getting to the end…but it may be a little bit of a journey getting there.

I Blame Eve: Freedom from Perfectionism, Control Issues, and the Tendency to Listen to Talking Snakes By Susanna Foth Aughtmon (Book Review)

When our great-to-the-nth-degree grandmother Eve ate the fruit, we lost out on the perfect life. But that doesn’t stop us from trying, does it? In fact, we make trying to be perfect the focus of our entire lives! But what would happen if we stopped trying to be perfect and started trying to be his?

In this fantastically witty book, Susanna Foth Aughtmon helps women find out what it means to be honest about what we crave in life and let go of our deep need to be in control. Using Scripture and amusing personal stories, she shows women the freedom of embracing the unique path God lays out for each of us. Includes study questions to facilitate group or individual use.

When Eve ate the fruit, we lost out on the perfect life. But that doesn’t stop us from trying, does it? What would happen if we stopped trying to be perfect and started trying to be his?

In this encouraging book, Susanna Foth Aughtmon helps you find out what it means to be honest about what you crave in life and let go of your deep need to be in control. With a skillful blend of Scripture, insight, and humor, she shows you the freedom of embracing the unique path God has laid out for you. The study questions included will help you or your small group make the most of this fun and fascinating book.

My Thoughts

What Christian woman hasn’t stopped and thought what it would be like if  “Eve hadn’t…..”? Would our impulses be different? Would our desires to be in charge be altered or a bit less?  I know that this has been a topic of discussion and jokes for many of my Christian friends and myself.  Whenever we find that we’ve done something wrong…we blame Eve.

I’m glad to see that I am not the only one that feels that way!

Don’t get me wrong…we are all responsible for our choices…but it sure is a lot more fun to blame someone else and Eve always seems to be the perfect candidate…and of course Adam is a close runner-up.

Susanna Foth Aughtmon shares with us in a delightful and humorous way how we struggle with many of the issues that Eve did and many times, we fail, just as she did.  I Blame Eve won’t make you perfect but will help you to realize that you are not alone and the only perfection is in Christ.  The book has a great little study guide at the back that will give you the guidance and the questions to ponder the subject more deeply.

Being a confessed Type A personality…I have to admit I cringed a little when the subject of “waiting” came up in her chapters…definitely not something I’m good at…but if I’m honest obviously Eve wasn’t either and a few other notables in the bible.  But with each chapter that I cringed at…I was also stretched to learn more about myself and my God.

I look forward to other titles from Susanna Foth Aughtmon.

The Forgiven Duke by Jamie Carie (Review & Giveaway)

TrackBack Address.

Tethered by her impulsive promise to marry Lord John Lemon – the path of least resistance – Alexandria Featherstone sets off toward Iceland in search of her parents with a leaden heart. A glimpse of her guardian, the Duke of St. Easton – the path less traveled by – on Dublin’s shore still haunts her.

Will he come after her? Will he drag her back to London, quelling her mission to rescue her treasure-seeking parents, or might he decide to throw caution to the wind and choose Foy Pour Devoir: “Faith for Duty,” the St. Easton motto. The Featherstone motto Valens et Volens: “Willing and Able,” beats in her heart and thrums through her veins. She will find her parents and find their love, no matter the cost.

The powerful yet wing-clipped Duke of St. Easton has never known the challenge that has become his life since hearing his ward’s name. Alexandria Featherstone will be the life or the death of him. Only time and God’s plan will reveal just how much this man can endure for the prize of love.

My Thoughts

The Forgiven Duke, by Jamie Carie, was a captivating sequel to The Guardian Duke in the Forgotten Castles series. Though it had been a couple months since I had read the prequel to this novel, I still remembered the storyline quite vividly, and I was eagerly anticipating the next installment in this exciting and now high-seas-rolling adventure.

At the start of this novel, Lady Alexandria Featherstone is still searching for her missing parents, the famous treasure hunters who disappeared in their latest search for a missing, highly-prized document. With Spanish and English troops both hot on her heels in pursuit (one meaning her harm and the other seeking to protect her), she is torn by conflicting desires and emotions. Alexandria is determined to find her parents whom she believes are still alive, but she also wants to stop fleeing from Gabriel, the Duke of St. Easton—who has turned out to be an intriguing and caring guardian.

This action-packed story will lead the reader on a racing adventure across seas to many shores, including Dublin’s and Iceland’s. And the love triangle that has been building between Alexandria, Lord John Lemon, and Gabriel will finally reach a conclusion.

I was hooked up until the final sentence on the last page. I can’t wait for the third story in this Forgotten Castles trilogy to be released so that all my unanswered questions will be satisfied.

I really enjoy Jamie Carie’s writing. She is a skilled writer who accomplishes a lot of things in each of her stories: engaging dialogue, well-built story lines, and action-packed adventures; yet her novels are also easy to follow, without getting the reader confused.
