Money always causes us worries. This never seems truer than with Christmas approaching. We all want Christmas to be as magical as possible for our little ones, but it doesn’t come cheap! We don’t just have to think about presents, either. Today we’re going to be taking a look at the food we eat over Christmas, and how we can make it cheaper. Christmas dinner can be a huge expense, not to mention all the extra treats we buy for that one day! It’s crazy to see how people go mad for food during the festive season. Stores are packed with trolleys filled with food. Anyone would think the shops shut for a month, not just one day! Of course, we’re all just as guilty of getting carried away. Here are some tips that might keep your food costs down this Christmas.

When it comes time to do the big Christmas shop, it’s well worth writing a list and sticking to it. It’s easy to get carried away with all the treats, but think about whether everything is going to get eaten. That’s not to say that you shouldn’t buy treats, just that you should do so sensibly. Christmas dinner is a big meal, anyway, and it’s unlikely a whole table full of treats is going to get eaten as well. Buy a tin of chocolates and a few tubs of crisps. Don’t go overboard and buy three of each! Buying too much is a waste of money, as much of it’s will end up getting thrown away.

Christmas may be a time for spoiling ourselves and the ones we love, but it doesn’t need to cost the earth. Shop around before you buy your food shop this year. Dia catalogs and others like them can be a great way to get an idea of what prices are like in a variety of stores. Take the time to find out which shop is cheaper. You could even justify that, as you’re choosing the cheapest store, you can treat yourself to more! Just like anything, you shouldn’t settle for the first food store you come to. Find the cheapest one, even if it means going a little further afield.

Could you make your sweets and food? There are some things you won’t be able to make, like a turkey for example! You can make a lot of Christmas food at home, though. Why not make sweets for the treat table this year? They are so easy to make. You could even spend a fun day of sweet making with your children. Stick on some Christmas music and get in the mood! You could also consider making your mince pies and Christmas cake. These are simple to make, and the ingredients cost next to nothing. Your family are sure to enjoy eating it more if they know you’ve put in that extra effort, too!!
