We love to try out a new game for family game night and Top That appealed to all three of my kids aged 2, 7, and 8. It’s recommended for players aged 6 and up so the 2 year old needed help but the other two caught on quickly!
The premise of the game is fairly simple. Each player gets a set of magician’s tools to work with. There is a stack of challenge cards that contains the items and the player has to use those items to stack them.
The tricky part is when the item is either shaded in grey or dazzled in stars. Then they have to either hide the prop if it’s grey or have it empty if it’s got stars. The object is to be the first to finish!
My kids found this concept slightly challenging at first and I had to keep reminding them what it meant. We finally wrote it down on a white board to help them remember. After playing a few times they got it.
I had to help my 2 year old play the game but then when everyone else was done, he kept playing by himself stacking things in different ways and putting them inside each other. It was a great way for him to work on his fine motor skills, sort and master his colors!
Top That is a great way for older kids to work on problem solving, thinking quickly and their motor skills as well. It’s a game my kids can all enjoy together since 2 – 4 players can play!
Match the Stack in this Magical Act
Top That! is a magical match-up themed after everyone’s favorite act! You and your opponents race to stack your magician’s tools according to the images on the challenge card. But the real magic happens when the images are painted in gray or dazzled in stars! If an item appears gray on the card, it must be hidden inside another prop, and if the item is surrounded in stars it must be empty for the grand magical reveal. Use sleight of hand to stack fast and wow the crowd with the final magic act!
