My six-year-old daughter absolutely loves princesses and she also happens to love crafts, so I knew the Once Upon a Craft sets from educational insights was just the perfect thing for her.
Each set comes with a book and two crafts as well as instructions that are more suggestions about how to use. First you read the story and then do the crafts that correlate with the book.
This one was called The Twelve Dancing Princesses. It was a little strange to me but Paige loved it.
It kind of reminded me of old school fairy tales with old traditions. The prince is asked to do something for the King and then he can pick which of his 12 daughters he can marry. I know it’s just a story but these old traditions bother me! Luckily the age is 4+ so kids will just enjoy it for what it is; a fun princess story.
Next we did the first craft which was Paige’s favorite part. She colored little cardboard dolls of the characters from the book and then acted out the story with a backdrop that’s included. She did this for a long time and has played with it more than once which I didn’t really expect.
Her little brother even played with her a few times.
The next craft might have been a little young for her as she’s almost seven but she still did it. It’s just taking little foam stickers and making a shoe and crown from the story. She did it and then went back to playing with the dolls.
There is a lot of educational value to Once Upon a Craft. Paige got to practice her reading before going back to school. She got to color and create and used her imagination a lot to re write the story while playing with the dolls! We have another set that’s Rapunzel that we can’t wait to try!
