Summer is in full swing and it is hot hot hot in Southern California! While we like to enjoy being outside in the morning, by early afternoon it’s just too hot out so we have to move inside. It’s always a challenge to keep three kids entertained when they are used to the schedule and routine of school and extra curricular activities. I have been struggling to have them do educational, yet fun things in the afternoon’s we’re inside.
The Learning Resources Primary Science Wow and Wonder Science Set came just in time to entertain my kids for an entire afternoon, and we’ve only just begun!
It comes with everything you need to do a bunch of fun experiments using the contents and a few items from home!
One thing that is all included without anything extra from home is the color mixing glasses with 6 lenses. This was my 2 1/2 year olds favorite thing! He loved swapping out the different lenses to make a variety of colors! You can slide two different lenses into each side of the glasses to make a new color. For example, yellow and blue make green! He was so fascinated by this! He was also working on his fine motor skills sliding the lenses into the glasses!
I knew as soon as I showed my kids the cards that had the different experiments on them which one they would choose: bubbles! It was surprisingly easy to make bubbles and the only thing I had to provide was water and original Dawn that I already had.
They had just as much fun gathering the items needed for the experiment as doing the experiment itself. Each card lists what they will need to perform the experiment. Then simple yet detailed instructions on how to do it. I had no idea it was so easy to make bubbles and these ones are much bigger and better than the ones that come out of a bottle. Who knew it could be so easy?
My six and eight year olds did this one over and over again! Like most Learning Resources games and toys, they didn’t realize they were learning! They thought they were just having some summer fun with bubbles!
Now that I have all the cards and know what’s needed I’ll be getting a few more things but most are household items that you will already have. If you don’t, they’re all cheap easy things to get.
After we did the first experiment, my kids just wanted to play with the tubes and water. I decided it was the opportune time to ad in the food coloring to play with some more colors! This is the perfect activity for my 2 1/2 year old who just learned his colors and loves to tell us the color of everything! It’s like magic to him to see the colors change before his eyes.
We have only just begun with the experiments but my kids are already excited about it! I told them we could do one new one each day so that they would really focus on and master each one.
The Learning Resources Primary Science Wow and Wonder Science Set will provide hours of entertainment AND STEM learning!
