Counting Blessings by Eileen Spinelli with adorable illustrations by Lee Holland is a sweet way to teach little ones to count! It is a board book but with a soft cushioned cover and rounded edges perfect for little ones to hold and turn pages. The pages are hard as well which makes it easier for those chubby toddler hands to turn!
Since it is a counting book, each page starts with a number and says something that is a blessing. For example, it starts with “One family – loves you sweet.” This one shows a cute picture of a little bunny family. Each page then goes up a number with a corresponding picture.
The most impressive thing about this book is that it is also a rhyming book! Finding things that are blessings that rhyme with the next number was probably not an easy feat to accomplish! I really like the rhyming because the rhythm helps kids with the memorization and really does help teach them to count.
While recommended for 3 – 5, my 2 year old really likes this book. He doesn’t quite get the counting part yet but he loves the illustrations and turning the pages himself. The age recommendation probably has more to do with the ability to actually process and learn to count. We are just around the corner from that milestone so I like starting to get it in his head now so he’s familiar with the numbers.
Counting Blessings is an adorable way to teach little ones to count while also reminding them of all the blessings in their life and teaching them to be thankful and appreciate them from a young age.
