My oldest son just turned 8 and we had a Mega Minecraft birthday party! It’s his current obsession so I went in hunt of all things Minecraft! As I previously shared, we got all the decorations and supplies from Birthday Express who had a surprisingly good selection of Minecraft supplies! Other than that though, I was surprised at how limited Minecraft party supplies are considering it’s popularity! Luckily I was able to piece together everything with some help from Etsy and Pinterest.
First for the invitation. Minecraft invitations were nowhere to be found so I went to Etsy. I prefer the personalized invitations to the old school cards anyway so I searched and let Reed pick out his favorite. He chose one from Party Design Shop that kind of helped set the tone for the rest of the party. Here it is (with personal info covered.) I had it in a matter of hours and took it to Walgreens to print.
I was all set with my Birthday Express party decorations. In fact I had so many I didn’t end up using them all! The first room you walk into is our living/dining combo so I wanted to make sure I put the bulk of the decorations in the first place they would see.
I think the 8 bit forest backdrop was probably the most impressive to the kids. It was thirty feet long! When I ran out of wall space I decided to cut the rest and made two tablecloths out of it! I used a plain lime green tablecloth for the other table and the lime green paper decorating kit for the hanging items.
Gold is apparently a big part of Minecraft so I used gold bars to decorate one table.
For the other table I used Creepers I made from the dollar tree for my centerpiece along with the goodie bags I had the kids decorate themselves as creepers.
In the rest of the main room I just spread out Reed’s existing Minecraft weapons as party decor.
The main attraction though was the Minecraft candy bar! Using free printable I found here, I went to our local Winco and found candy that corresponded with Minecraft themes. For complete details on the candy bar, click here.
Our great room is the next room you go into and this is where I put the remainder of the decorations.
Here I also had Minecraft inspired snacks with more free printable, decorations from Birthday Express and creeper drink containers using green containers from the dollar tree and electrical tape.
My son likes carrot cake so I just used a boxed cake mix and died the frosting green. I bought black frosting to complete my creeper! It wasn’t perfect but good enough for my eight year old!
We had lots of fun playing some of the games I found on Pinterest. I wanted to go with cheap yet fun so here are the games we played.
I’m so happy to have found Minecraft decorations this year since that’s what he really wanted last year.
The kids had a blast and my daughter has decided her next party will be Minecraft as well!
