This book couldn’t have come along at a better time for me. Actually it came about a month ago but ironically I was too busy to read it! Finally on a much needed vacation I decided it was time to read Breaking Busy whilst I was literally, breaking busy.
I knew from the foreword by Christine Caine that it was going to be one of those life changing books! I simply devoured it looking for Worthington’s answers to the statement she posed in her subtitle “how to find peace and purpose in a world of crazy.” Yes please show me how!
Her words couldn’t have resonated with me more if I had written them myself. Right before we left for our timeshare in Carlsbad I had told myself I was going to take this week to really think about what we could phase out of our over committed busy lives. Some are as simple as narrowing down the kids activities but others are bigger life changing decisions like my career path.
The second I opened Breaking Busy I knew God had placed this book in my hands at the time I was ready to read and really hear the words. As I read through the signs that I may be over committed and burning out, every single one applied! I knew it was time to make a change. I just didn’t know how or what. My mental, physical and emotional health have all been suffering.
Worthington is a great storyteller! She starts each chapter with a story, usually funny and witty and most I could relate to! She has a great way of pulling you in with her humor and making her feel like she completely gets you.
I felt relief knowing I was not alone and that most mothers out there probably struggle with Breaking Busy. Her insights made me feel like there is hope and sometimes it’s just as simple as learning to say no. I don’t have to show up for or do everything that’s asked of me and that’s ok. The world will not end.
This book was a great start for me in learning to break busy and I am immediately putting it into practice!
