How could you do this to me Terri Blackstock? I’m on the edge of the cliff just hanging! AHHHHH I didn’t know this was going to be a book that was to be continued! I consumed If I Run in a day and then was left with no resolution. Oh the torture! I’m hoping there is a sequel coming soon and that this isn’t one of those open ended choose your own ending type books!
I read this book in a day because that’s how good it was. It had me hooked from page one. There is nothing more satisfying to me than opening a book and just knowing instantly that it’s going to be great!
This book was all suspense, all the time. It is told from two different viewpoints and normally I really don’t like that but in this case it worked. It alternated every other chapter, for the most part, between Casey and Dylan and that really gave it an interesting rhythm. The reason I don’t normally like this is that I get engrossed in one side only to be pulled to the other. In this case it was perfectly paced and none of the chapters were too long. I was anxious to go back and forth between these characters!
Casey has been accused of a horrific crime and Dylan is the private investigator hired to find her. While Blackstock gave us some foreshadowing of a potential romance in the future, there was none in this book. There shouldn’t be romance when one is on the run from the law but if this was a Hollywood movie it probably would have happened! Luckily Blackstock is more realistic than that and that’s part of what I love about her writing. It’s so authentic and lifelike.
The perspective of the two characters really brought the story to life for me. My only complaint is again, no resolution at the end! I guess that means there will be a sequel to If I Run! At least there better be! That cliffhanger left me wanting more!
About the book:
If I Run (Zondervan, February 2016)
Casey knows the truth. But it won’t set her free.
Casey Cox’s DNA is all over the crime scene. There’s no use talking to police; they have failed her abysmally before. She has to flee before she’s arrested . . . or worse. The truth doesn’t matter anymore.
But what is the truth? That’s the question haunting Dylan Roberts, the war-weary veteran hired to find Casey. PTSD has marked him damaged goods, but bringing Casey back can redeem him. Though the crime scene seems to tell the whole story, details of the murder aren’t adding up. Casey Cox doesn’t fit the profile of a killer. But are Dylan’s skewed perceptions keeping him from being objective? If she isn’t guilty, why did she run?
Unraveling her past and the evidence that condemns her will take more time than he has, but as Dylan’s damaged soul intersects with hers, he is faced with two choices. The girl who occupies his every thought is a psychopathic killer . . . or a selfless hero. And the truth could be the most deadly weapon yet.
