This is one of those books that are written for kids but then I end up reading for review and thoroughly enjoying! Kat McGee and the School of Christmas Spirit is funny and witty and an unexpected delight!
I think part of the reason I enjoyed it so much is I really related to Kat McGee. She feels like everyone around her is perfect and she’s a disaster. I felt like that in school and actually not much has changed into motherhood and adulthood. The only difference is I’m old enough and confident enough to not care when embarrassing things happen! With age you learn to laugh at yourself but Kat McGee is just in fifth grade and I remember that age well.
Luckily things look up for Ms McGee when she is chosen to go to the North Pole! Now THAT is an extra special job, not one for any ordinary kid. This made it a magical Christmas story as I’m sure we’ve all at some point or another dreamed of going to the North Pole.
Kat is in for some magical adventures and some life lessons she needs to learn. It’s a hard age and stage in life and so much is changing but like Kat, one must learn to believe in themselves, have confidence and focus on what is real and magical in this world! Kat McGee and the School of Christmas Spirit is a delightful read, especially in time for the holidays.
About the Book
If Kat McGee had one Christmas wish, she’d wish to be special. Instead, she’s the boring middle in a family packed with sparkly siblings, including three sisters who have all starred as Mary in Totsville, Maine’s annual big-deal Christmas Pageant. All Kat’s done is wet her pants on a rollercoaster and earn herself the horrible nickname, “Kat McPee.” When she doesn’t get the part of Mary, Kat’s convinced that Christmas will be just another Kat McPee failure. But then Kat’s beloved Gram lets it slip that she went to school with Mrs. Claus. The Mrs. Claus. Before Kat knows it, a magical snowglobe whisks her away to the North Pole, where she makes friends, checks naughty and nice lists, and takes classes in cookie baking, reindeer training, and toy designing. It’s a Christmas miracle… But something is wrong. The North Pole is being threatened, and only Kat McGee can help. Kat McGee and The School of Christmas Spirit is about a modern girl in a magical adventure. Kat is about to learn who you can be if you believe in Christmas… and yourself.
