The Deep and Snowy Wood by Elwyn Tate #Review #HolidayGiftGuide

The Deep and Snowy Wood is story that surprised me at the end. I thought this was just going to be a story about winter, but it turns out it was about Christmas! I like how in the story you don’t really meet the characters, but mostly follow them. They pass all these other animals of all different depths of the deep woods along the way. It kept my three and sever year olds paying attention page by page.

The illustrations are sort of dark, but only in color and the characters are still sweet. It is about the deep woods so it makes sense to be dark! The illustrations cover every part of the page and complement the story really well.

After reading it several times now I like that the story leads up to the anticipation of Christmas. Some of the animals at the end even are in a live nativity scene so it is not only about Santa, but Jesus too! The Deep and Snowy Wood would be a wonderful book to give this Christmas!
