This is one of those books were the parent probably learns as much as the kid! Reading through the Angels in the Bible Storybook I was actually surprised at how often angels appear in the Bible! I was familiar with most of the stories but I guess I had never thought of the big picture before. That’s what makes this such a great book because it puts them all in one place!
I couldn’t find an age recommendation on this one but I thought it was good for my six and seven year olds. I like that it was broken up like the Bible into Old Testament and New Testament.
The one thing that was a little different for my kids was the illustrations. My daughter asked me why the angels looked like that. It’s one of those things that everyone pictures differently in their minds so I agree with the interpretation of Massari and the decision to make them look so human. I think my kids picture them more like glowing magestic cartoon like characters that are usually depicted that way in storybooks.
I just tried explaining to them that we don’t really know what they look like and that they have appeared in different forms, even just as ordinary men. It’s a hard concept for adults to grasp so I understand their struggle with it.
After losing my dad this summer my kids have had a lot of questions about heaven and hell and life and death so this was a really good thing for us to read right now. I think Angels in the Bible Storybook was comforting to all of us. This would make a really wonderful gift this holiday season!
About the Book
Where were the angels when God created the world? Why did an angel force a donkey off a road? Who did the angels get out of jail twice? Young readers will find answers to these and other questions in this exciting storybook, written by bestselling author Allia Zobel Nolan with illustrations by Alida Massari. Angels in the Bible Storybook gives children a fascinating look into how God’s powerful behind-the-scenes helpers interacted with Bible greats from Abraham, Lot, and Gideon to Zechariah, Mary, and Jesus himself, acting as messengers, protectors, warriors, and more.
