The GEOMAG Mechanics set for five and older is a set that uses magnetic polarities to power it’s mechanical motion. This is a great science tool to show how a magnets can push and pull. My son who is a second grader just had a science lesson with magnets where we discovered their poles so we’re excited to build the GEOMAG Mechanics set! This set is fun and it is one of those things where the more sets you have, the better it is!

The one thing we learned was that when you put the two orange pieces together you need to be careful of the tiny tabs that help them fit together because they can break off fairly easy. I think we broke three before we realized we needed to be more careful (luckily everything still works even when a few of these tabs break off).

Also, I wish the instructions talked more about the science behind the magnets and the mechanics of how the attraction and repulsion make the spinning continue. My son is always full of questions, so we talked all about it anyway.

The GEOMAG Pink set is for ages three and older (and is pink to appeal more to girls). It was fun to build these into different shapes and it is cool to see how powerful these magnets are! They pull towards each other when they start to get close.

The GEOMAG sets, In my opinion should be played with under adult supervision. They are well made, but still should not be put in anyone’s mouth (which is why the box is marked “not for children under three years.”

Another thing that’s kind of cool about these sets is you can choose different ones that are appropriate for your child’s age. For example, you can get this set with different amounts of pieces that get more complicated as they get bigger. The smallest is just 22 pieces for starters and the largest is 142.

The GEOMAG sets would make a great gift this Christmas be issue they are great science and learning toys and the best part is that kids will play with them and not realize they are learning!
