I really like reading Christmas Novella’s. It’s really the perfect length for a Christmas story. Christmas is one day a year, celebrated for around a month a year so it makes sense that An Endless Christmas is a shorter Novella instead of a full novel. It also makes it the perfect length to curl up and read in a day. I tend to do that with Cynthia Ruchti’s books anyway so it’s nice when it’s a short one.
The cover drew me in immediately with it’s beautiful Christmassy scene of a warmly lit snow covered cottage. The frosty finish on the paper completed the invitation to open up and dive in! True to her writing style, Ruchti had me at the first couple pages! An unhappy beginning was not what I expected but it was exactly what had me reading on to see where this was going!
Katie seems like a bit of a lost soul, used to sadness and disappointment as learned from her parents. Micah has had the opposite experience with family and wants to share the moment of his proposal with them. Unfortunately it’s not the introduction Katie expected, or wanted it seems! A disastrous beginning didn’t bode well for this book but I knew Ruchti wasn’t going to pen a sad Christmas tale so I read on!
At first I was mildly annoyed but the seemingly perfect Binder family but as the story unfolded, the truth of sadness and grief unveiled itself and made them seem more of a “normal” family. They had just grown together in spite of hardship instead of apart. They are all bound together by love and by the patriarchs of the family Dodie and Wilson Binder.
An Endless Christmas is a wonderful read this holiday season that got me in the spirt and left me feeling as warm and cozy as if I were in the Binder’s inviting cottage that’s the very definition of a home.
About the Book
Too many people, too much snow, and too little room should be a recipe for disaster.
Christmas takes a very different turn when the guests of honor break up instead of announcing their engagement. Trapped with his family, they learn that love looks different than either imagined. Both in their eighties, Dodie and Wilson Binder celebrate every Christmas as if it were their last. This year, their grandson Micah is planning to ask his girlfriend, Katie, to marry him so they can celebrate with the whole family. But things go very wrong when she says, “no.” Now they are stuck. Too many people, too much snow, and too little room should be a recipe for disaster. But sometimes too much is just enough. Especially when it’s Christmas.
