My Guide to Family Holidays in France #Travel

Some people may be hesitant to take the kids to France, preferring Spain or perhaps even Italy if they go to Europe. But France is a beautiful place for a family vacation, and there’s an enormous range of options. Whether you’re looking for a city break, an active vacation or a quiet getaway, there are lots of places to see. Compared to some of the other countries in Europe, France is relatively large. But it’s still easy to see by train or car if you want to take in as much as possible. Try some of these destinations for the perfect family trip to France.

The first place that will come to anyone’s mind when they think of a vacation to France is Paris. And, despite all of the grown-up things associated with Paris, there’s plenty for the kids to do too. Paris has several beautiful parks and gardens that your children will love to explore, and in the summer they’ll even be able to take a ride on the carousels. A boat trip along the Seine is another activity that’s great fun, and the Aquarium de Paris is a great activity for a rainy day. Kids will love trying a crepe filled with Nutella too!

If you want a city destination but you’re worried Paris might be a bit too busy for you, try somewhere smaller, such as Nice. Nice is the capital of the French Riviera and lies on the south coast of the country. In fact, it’s not that far from the Italian border. Although Nice might not be the top choice for families, it’s actually ideal. From family-friendly hotels like the ones you can find on to outdoor activities, there’s plenty that provides for kids and their parents. You can look for forest adventure at Canyon Forest, go to Escape Marineland, which has four amusement parks, or go on a glass-bottomed boat trip.

The northern region of Normandy is a great place for families. There are family-friendly hotels and restaurants, and you can choose between the beach or the countryside. If you want the beach, you’ll find there’s much more to do than simply lie in the sun. The kids can explore rock pools, paddle in the sea and join beach activity clubs. They can get out and do some water-based activities too, from kayaking to diving. If you choose the countryside, you could go off on a biking or walking adventure.

Loire Valley

The Loire Valley is a beautiful region in central France. If you’re looking for an active, outdoor vacation, it’s the perfect place to go. You can spend the time cycling, hiking or canoeing. And budding history buffs will love the Chateaux of the Loire Valley – that’s castles to you and me. There’s also plenty of structured activities, from forest safaris to go-karting. There are lots of towns from which to base your stay, so have a look at what they have to offer.
France is a wonderful country to take your family, with lots of places to visit. Maybe your next vacation will be to one if its beautiful cities, towns or villages.
