A Skeptic’s Experience with doTerra Essential Oils: Part 1 @doterra #doterra #MothersDayGiftGuide

I admit it; I’m a skeptic by nature. It takes a lot to convince me to change my mind, especially when something just seems to be a fad or a passing craze. I paid no attention the past few years as I’ve heard more and more about doTerra because I figured it would pass like everything else does. But it didn’t…

With Jax being so sick this year, several people have mentioned trying different things with essential oils on him. I’m hesitant to experiment on my baby but I figured it was worth looking into at least to see just how safe it was and if there was anything that could actually help him.

A friend recommended several things to me but after doing some reading, the Introductory Kit seemed to be the best place to start. It contains three of the most used oils: Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint.

First Impressions

First impressions really can be everything! This kit was smaller than I expected in size but was really cute and had pretty Lavender flowers decorating the outside which gave it that feminine look but also makes it perfect for gift giving!

When I opened it up, I was really impressed that it had a breakdown of what each of the three oils was used for. This is a perfect reference guide and located exactly where you need it so you don’t have to hunt for it!

I decided to try a few different things right off the bat after reading the descriptions. For this segment, I’ll talk about the Peppermint.

The Peppermint

One of the first things I noticed when reading the descriptions was that Peppermint can promote healthy respiratory function and can be applied topically or in a diffuser. As I mentioned, I’m a bit hesitant to experiment on my child so I didn’t want to put anything on him directly, at least not until we know what is going on. He has had Pneumonia four times in less than three months and we are seeing specialists to determine the source. In the meantime, I had recently gotten a humidifier that doubles as a diffuser so I figured this was a safe way to use the Peppermint.

The humidifier I got has little pads that you can drop oils onto and then insert inside for it to be used as a diffuser. I started doing this with Jax at night so that he could breathe it in throughout the night.

I opened the bottle thinking it would have some sort of a dropper. It just had a little hole at the top so me, not thinking clearly, turned it upside down to see what would happen. Well, as you would expect, several drops came out! I caught them on my wrist not wanting to waste them and rubbed them into my wrists. I decided that might be a good time to read about what it should do!

There are a few different things the Peppermint is good for when applied topically:

  1. Apply topically to open sinuses and airways
  2. Inhale as a non-stimulant, invigorating pick-me-up on long drive

Well I can now attest to both of these things! It definitely opened up my sinuses and airways. As I’m typing I can just feel everything open up and it makes me want to breathe deeply. It smells amazing and I feel a bit of a warm tingly sensation on my wrists where I rubbed it in.

I can also see how this would keep someone awake or long drives or as another suggestion; keeping your child focused and alert for homework and school! It definitely seems to have invigorated me!

I put it in a few hours before bedtime so that I could experience it myself. It instantly filled the air with the crisp, fresh scent of Peppermint. I could definitely feel my lungs open up and just wanted to breathe deeper.

Since Jax is the one whose breathing I worry about, I have used this in his room every night for a couple of weeks. Of course I can’t testify to its effectiveness since that’s something that’s hard to measure. What I DO know is that he hasn’t been sick or wheezed at all during those couple weeks. It could be a total coincidence or the Peppermint might really help. Only time will tell. I’ll continue to use it in his humidifier every night since I want to do everything I can to help him breathe and keep him healthy!

My Conclusion

I definitely can tell a difference myself using the Peppermint. It definitely helps me breathe deeper and feels like cleaner air. Using it during my daily 2:00 sleepy time to wake up is probably healthier than my usual cup of coffee so I will continue to use it then as well!

There are so many different uses for these oils that I’ve only just begun. That is why I decided to make this Part 1 and I’ll continue to share my experiences in the next couple of weeks.

Has a skeptic been converted? Not completely but I’m convinced enough to believe I need to explore more!

As Mothers Day approaches I think this Introductory Kit would make a great Mothers Day gift for anyone you know that has been wanting to try the oils but doesn’t know where to begin. It contains the three most popular and widely used and is packaged already as the perfect gift!
