My Little Life of Jesus By Karen Williamson Review @KregelBooks #KregelPublications

My Thoughts

We love reading different Bible stories in our house. With three kids under the age of 6, I have tried many different stories for their age groups. My Little Life of Jesus is a cute little book for ages 3 – 5. My daughter Paige is 5 years old so I read it with her.

The first thing I noticed about the book that I liked is the soft cover and binding. This is good for little hands to grasp and not so easy for them to tear! Even at five my daughter is too rough with books and a lot of pages get torn. The inside are thinner pages; not like the hard ones designed for toddlers. This allows room for more pages and content but it’s hard making sure the little ones don’t rip the pages. My one year old likes to try to turn pages now so he tears them a lot.

The book itself is the life of Jesus from the time he was born until the first Easter. It has the different stories in it but kind of reads like one long story. It is broken up by the corresponding Bible verse but I wish it had more of an obvious division like chapters with title pages. There is a new title on the first page of a new story but it’s kind of small and easy to miss and my five year old didn’t think it was time to stop a chapter. It’s good if you want to read it like one whole story but to read the whole thing cover to cover in one sitting is a bit long for 3 – 5 year olds; at least it was for the one in my house!

The illustrations by Amanda Enright are great for the little ones. They are bright and colorful and probably what kept my one year olds attention while I was reading to him and his sister. It’s really good at explaining things like what disciples are instead of just assuming a child would know.

Overall My Little Life of Jesus is not my favorite Bible book ever but both my youngest enjoyed it and like to have it read to them over and over so that makes it a hit in my house.

About the Book

My Little Life of Jesus introduces the story of Jesus’ life to 3-to 5-year-olds. Illustrated throughout with adorable artwork from a popular Candle Books artist, there is also a map included to show the land where Jesus lived. This padded hardcover comes complete with a presentation page for gift or award giving.
