Ahhhh, forgiveness; a daily struggle for me. Maybe it’s not so much that forgiving as it is the forgetting that’s difficult. This latest edition from Chicken Soup The Power of Forgiveness was really good for my soul and a much needed read!
We have all been screwed over by people, hurt, trampled on, taken advantage of, left behind and…well, you get the picture. People can be cruel and it hurts. I have read many different sayings about how un-forgiveness is only hurting yourself and it’s really true. The person that stomped on your heart doesn’t care or they wouldn’t have stomped on your heart to begin with!
However, forgiving is easier said than done. You can say “I forgive you” but living and breathing it is a different thing entirely. I will THINK I forgave someone. I said the words and I even meant them. But then I’ll find myself getting easily hurt, angered or offended by that person and realize I haven’t yet. So how do you actually forgive?
For me, it’s a lot of prayer and a conscious effort. Reading these 101 stories about how to really let go was also a great step in that direction. Reading how other people let go and moved on and seeing the amazing things that happened as a result was inspiring and made me want to really work on true forgiveness in my life. With forgiveness comes freedom and it’s something that makes me a better person.
As always there are different sections on specific things like Forgiving Fathers, Forgiving Friends and Colleagues and the Importance of Self Forgiveness. I have to say that was my favorite section because I think moms especially are hard on themselves and learning to let go and move forward with forgiveness of self is so important!
The Power of Forgiveness was a great, healing read for me and inspired me to search my heart and really work on this in my life!
