Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Season 1, Vol.1 (Two Mom’s Opinions)

After 10,000 years of imprisonment, the evil sorceress Rita Repulsa and her loyal minions are freed when astronauts on a routine mission in space accidentally open her dumpster prison on the Moon. Filled with rage, Rita decides to conquer the nearest planet: Earth. But her archnemesis, the heroic sage Zordon, has been patiently waiting in preparation for this day. With the assistance of his wisecracking robotic sidekick Alpha 5, Zordon recruits a team of five teenagers with attitude (Jason, Zack, Kimberly, Billy and Trini) to receive superpowers beyond their wildest dreams so they can defend the Earth as the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Aided by giant robotic vehicles modeled after dinosaurs called Zords, the Power Rangers fight back against the evil alien hordes of Rita Repulsa. The start of the Power Rangers phenomenon!

My Thoughts

This was the season that started it all for the Power Rangers. As with any series I believe that the first series is the best. The writing of the stories and adventures is more creative and there is more thought put into the characters. The writing does not seem rushed; the stories are complete and thorough.

The power rangers are teenagers with different powers. They work together to fight against Empress of Evil Rita Repulsa and save the world.  Each episode is action packed with the good working together to suppress the evil. My boys liked the power rangers because there is a lot of contact in each episode. Each episode there is a struggle of some type and they fight their way out of it. Each of the characters uses their super power and different forms of karate to suppress the Empress of Evil and her goons. Bulk and Skull are two characters that bring humor to the show. They stand up to evil and add some comic relief to the show.

The Power Rangers focus on being good, teamwork and saving the world. These are all characteristics that children need to model. Each episode is different and has its own level of excitement.

My Thoughts

For a brief moment in my life I enjoyed watching Power Rangers some 20 or so years ago. Yes! I am old. I thought that my 3 year old would enjoy it, but unfortunately it didn’t keep him entertained. However several hours later I saw him doing a few of the Power Rangers moves. It made me bust up laughing, because I think he really was watching it.

My older two children actually really enjoyed it, because they kept saying these are the old episodes, I am not sure of the differences, other than probably the graphics for the older and newer episodes, the Power Rangers are still the same!
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1 Vol. 1 is the first ever 30 episodes on 3 discs. What a great idea for those who love Power Rangers!

Season 1 is where it all began and the original 5 power rangers will defend the earth against the evil Rita Repulsa and her evil minions. As I said before it was a brief moment that I enjoyed Power Rangers, but I have to say that Zordon era is by far the best.

So, if you are ready to take a trip down memory lane or you a are a fan of Power Rangers this set is definitely for you. It would make a great gift and it could be great to share with your kids if they grew up watching Power Rangers, because you can show them where it all started.  Finally what we have been waiting for.
