Come Home (A Novel) by Lisa Scottoline (Audio book review)

My Thoughts

Scottoline tells an intriguing tale with plenty of mystery and suspense to keep you guessing!  Listening to a book on CD is a new experience to me.  It’s hard when you can’t control the speed something is a told!  If this were a book I would have speed read through it to find out what happens in the end!  Instead I had to listen through eleven CD’s to get to the end!

Scottoline is a master at building up the anticipation chapter by chapter!  When I began listening to this I had no idea of the thriller it would become! It started out as a typical novel and almost got off to a slow start for me that took me a little while to get into.  Just when I had almost written it off as a bit boring, she really picked up the pace at the perfect time!

Jill is a Pediatrician who is now a single mom after an ugly divorce from William.  When William winds up dead under suspicious circumstances, her ex step daughter Abby brings Jill back into their lives when she shows up on her doorstep.  Jill’s fiancé Sam is not thrilled at her re-entrance into Abby’s life and it quickly stirs up some drama.  Abby shares her suspicions with Jill regarding William’s untimely death and thus begins a huge conspiracy theory that grows by the minute.

Jill puts aside her life to help Abby uncover the truth, eventually causing bigger problems and putting them all in danger.  What is the terrible secret behind William’s death?  Will she uncover it before or after she ruins her relationship with Sam? Every time she finds an answer, it leads to yet another question.

This was such an upbeat thriller with an ending no one could guess!  I loved that Scottoline makes you believe that she has tied up all the loose ends, only to shock you again in the end!  I haven’t been a huge fan of the audio books but this was almost like watching a suspenseful movie!  I can’t wait until her next book!
