Kaye Dacus (KAY DAY-cuss) is an author and editor who has been writing fiction for more than twenty years. A former Vice President of American Christian Fiction Writers, Kaye enjoys being an active ACFW member and the fellowship and community of hundreds of other writers from across the country and around the world that she finds there. She currently serves as President of Middle Tennessee Christian Writers, which she co-founded in 2003 with three other writers. Each month, she teaches a two-hour workshop on an aspect of the craft of writing at the MTCW monthly meeting. But her greatest joy comes from mentoring new writers through her blog and seeing them experience those “aha” moments when a tricky concept becomes clear.

Ransome’s Quest, the third in The Ransome Trilogy, by Kaye Dacus was such an exciting read. It was a very welcome distraction from allthe laundry and other chores surrounding me at home with 4 kiddos. I looked forward every night to having a little “me” time. In fact, one night I stayed up until 2 a.m. reading, because I just couldn’t wait until the next night to find out what was going to happen to my favorite characters.

I’m not a big fan of romance novels; I’m more interested in the action and adventure genre for books and television shows. Ransome’s Quest was totally an adventurous book, filled with pirates, ship voyages, and dramatic situations both on-board ships and on land. Romance did flow throughout the story but it was modest, and it was just the right amount for me.

I also enjoyed the thread of faith woven throughout this high-seas adventure. Though it is not written in an overtly-Christian way, the author and book’s characters are obviously God-fearing, and there is a redemptive theme throughout the story.

It did take me almost the entire book though to get all the characters’ family connections figured out. I had to keep reminding myself who was related to who via family or marriage, but that was mostly because I started The Ransome Trilogy in its last book.

I recommend this book highly to those that love romance, as well as adventure stories. I chose reading this book over watching movies or television every night until I finished it. There is just something wonderful about curling up in bed at night and reading a good book (even if the hubby is snoring loudly right beside you).
