Il Volo’s self-titled debut album is now available in the US, both in stores and online. Already certified platinum in the group’s native Italy, Il Volo is a mix of reimagined classics and original material that includes Italian standards “O Sole Mio” and “Il Mundo,” and two new tracks penned by multi-platinum songwriter Dianne Warren.
To celebrate their album release, Il Volo – seventeen year old Piero Barone and sixteen year olds Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble – are taking the US airwaves by storm this week, with performances on FOX’s American Idol results show this Thursday night, NBC’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Friday, and an appearance on the CBS Early Show’s Second Cup Cafe on Saturday morning.
Wow. I am going to be completely hones and say that I am not a big Opera fan. I appreciate the talent but can’t say there has ever been a moment where I’ve said “Hey, let’s listen to some Opera”.
But that, my friends, has changed!! Wow, wow and um…Wow! What amazing voices God has given these young men. The instant I put the CD into the player my daughters and I were hooked.
I mentioned to the girls that I had a new CD that I wanted to listen to and they were like “Ok, sure”. I hear music all the time so it’s not a big deal for them….but when the first song started to play you could have heard a pin drop. Rylan asked “Mom, what kind of music is that?” and Skylar immediately said and I quote “What a beautiful voice”.
We listened to the entire CD in one car drive and quickly found our favorites. Now, the girls will say can we listen to the beautiful voices? I love it. I would have never considered myself an Opera lover and I still don’t but I am definitely an IL Volo lover.
I love that these three young men are able to introduce to children and adults and especially teens a sound and culture that is so refined…it moves your soul. Just take a moment, close your eyes and listen to one of our favorites (yes, this one is in Spanish not Italian)
