Morning For Dove

Martha Rogers

synopsis

Race. Culture. They can unite. They often divide.

When Luke Anderson falls for Dove Morris, he doesn’t anticipate the prejudice he’ll face from his own family. Dove’s skin, such a beautiful reflection of her Native American heritage, serves as a point of contention between Luke and his parents. Will a literal trial by fire confirm Luke’s love, or burn it away?

mythoughts

I have never read a book by Martha Rogers before. I have been out of the loop! I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet, romantic story of the beautiful, 1/2 Cherokee, Dove and the handsome, Luke.

I was drawn to the story line because I am also married to someone that is a different ethnicity then I am. I am Hispanic and my husband is White.  In our lives in this “Modern time” we have experienced racism and indifference when people see us together so I am always intrigued to read stories about inter-racial couples…whether they are non-fiction or fiction….I am interested.

I enjoyed the way Martha Rogers unfolded her story line. From the moment you opened the book and read the first line you knew this would be a love story that truly focused on God, love and loyalty. You could read this book with out fear that some out of place “romantic scenario” would pop up. Although this is the 2nd book in the Winds Across the Prairie…I felt that it stood independently on its own. This is a great thing since I have never read the first book.

I think the entire premise of this book is summed up in the one statement Dove’s mother tells her early on in the story line When Dove and Luke encounter each other in the general store Dove’s mothers mentions “….You must seek God’s will in all your relationships.”

A profound and true statement whether it is 1897 or 2010. I look forward to reading more of Martha Rogers’ sweet romances. They leave your heart and face smiling.
